A very comfortable hotel that's in an ideal location for hill walking or just sightseeing. The food (breakfast and evening meal) and in particular the service was very good. The staff are very friendly and both the rooms and common areas are very clean and comfortable.

charming stay near gorgeous park views and scenic landmarks
We enjoyed the fabulous dining room with excellent views up the valley, making each meal a good experience, and after exploring nearby Derwent Water, we loved retreating to our comfortable room that had everything we needed.

Beautifully decorated room, but the dining experience was disappointing and overpriced.

Gorgeous surroundings, comfortable hotel and friendly helpful staff. Relaxed atmosphere.
I think meals for the hotel residents shouldn't be full price.

Brilliant place with obliging employees from the house keepers. Stunning and brilliant location in a local area, very close to a beautiful valley and a lovely quiet spot for relaxing, Derwentwater the ' Queen of the Lakes', and fields and mountains.

Perfect getaway vibes
The staff were super friendly and. Breakfast options were great, especially the local produce. The views from our room were fine, seemed like a dream. A tiny hiccup was the noise from the nearby road, but it didn't ruin our chill vibes at all!

Excellant food with adventurous chefs on traditional menus. Present owners upgrading to luxurious standard an already fine hotel.

Location is unbeatable and the recent refurb has made it very comfortable. Great location for serious walkers/hikers but comfortable enough that you could laze and enjoy the scenery from the lounge. Food and wine are good.
We stayed 3 nights but only found out on the 3rd day that we could just have a one course evening meal in the dining room. This was a good option for us and would have been good to know on checkin.

Peace and quiet of the location. Friendlyness and excellent support of staff. There were no young screaming children, bliss! Although parents with young children are not discouraged, I do not feel that this is an hotel that is suitable for them from both a price and location perspective. The local area of this part of the Lake District is stunning, much better than Windmere or Ambleside. Keswick is just a few miles down the road, including and excellent Lakeside theatre.
I would like to see a sauna/steam room facility installed as this could be very much appreciated after a days walking.
